MY WEEK OF REST & RELAXATION (PART II)

Backstory: In August 2021, I went to World's End, run by Sarah of Saipua, for a week. It was flower heaven on earth! Our third day on the farm and second floral lesson entailed of Ikebana. Let's get into it! This is part 2 of a 5 part series on my week in Saipua.

LESSON 2

I K E B A N A

First, I woke up in my cute little cabin and got ready. Then, we got a lesson from Sarah, foraged and picked the flower field. It's nice to try and optimze what you pick, imagining how you would use it in the style of arrangement that you’re going to make.

Tall, cream Cosmos. Love!

The pond.

SO MANY FLOWERS!!

My in-progress Ikebana. The dill flower stem was extremely bending and I immediately knew i wanted to try and use the unusual piece. I also tried using the pink amaranthus, which definitely was a challenge. It's so odd and usually I see it used at the base of an arrangement--never stood up tall. It's an odd one!

Don't miss the chocolate cosmos, the little flower darling that's charmed us all.

arrangement 2

After lunch, I created an arrangement using the flowers that I thought were the most challenging. It wasn't looking finished until Sarah helped me add the left-side golden rod as the final touch. It was looking round and stout until the golden rod stretched into into a realm of visual interest. And who doesn't L-O-V-E a dahlia. The purple poodle ones were at the top of my list of "i don't think i want to work with those" but i'm glad i played around! There were so many flowers at our expense. I really felt I got to run free like I've always wanted to for the first time. I would like to go back, please!

Aster and golden rod serve as the foundation and "greenery."

Looking like a sunner even as she wilts and starts to expire in certain areas. This is in my little cabin.

Bonding with her pal, the URN.
